ProPublica article about climate impacts of natural gas

“Climate Benefits of Natural Gas May Be Overstated”

The article discusses a new report by the EPA regarding the climate change impacts of natural gas drilling. In particular, the EPA study says it previously underestimated the amount of natural gas that leaks from pipes, which still contributes to climate change as a greenhouse gas. Further, poor efficiencies of gas burning plants and facilities means that as a fuel, its potential is yet to be reached. Still, natural gas may be about 25% cleaner than coal and so presents clear alternatives to other fossil fuels.
