June 23 -
25, Currents of the Juniata - A Watershed and Conservation
Workshop for Educators, Juniata College, PA. Discover
one of Pennsylvania's premier rivers and its watershed,
learn how humans have interacted with the river and helped
shape its ecology, conduct stream and lake studies by
canoe and boat, and explore Raystown Lake and the surrounding
watershed environ. We'll complement field studies with
the introduction of resources, lesson plans and activities
for use in your own classroom curriculum. At week's end,
you'll venture home with newfound inspiration and plenty
of ideas for helping your own students discover their
local watershed. The workshop content will be geared for
middle school teachers but content is adaptable for K-
12, and all educators (formal and nonformal) are invited
to attend. There is a tuition of $360, which includes
meals, shared accommodations, outdoor equipment, instructional
materials and ACT 48 continuing education credits. For
more information or a 2003 Program Catalog, contact the
PA Institute for Conservation Education at 570-458-5227
