SUMMARY:34th Swatara Sojourn
DESCRIPTION:Join the Swatara Watershed Association and Cocoa Kayak Rentals of Hershey for the 34th Swatara Sojourn. This guided paddle will cover 15 miles at the southern end of the Swatara Creek\, beginning near Hershey and finishing with a stunning view of the confluence with the Susquehanna River in Middletown. This paddle is perfect if you are a beginner paddler\, new to the Swatara Creek or have been paddling your entire life. Although this part of the creek passes through a largely suburban area\, the Swatara offers a secluded feel and an abundance of wildlife. Join us in doing your part to leave the creek a little cleaner than you found it by picking up litter along the way. A light breakfast\, lunch and snacks are included with your registration fee and you will learn about the geology\, history and ecology of this unique section of the creek. (Caves\, what caves?) Go to swatarawatershed.org and click on the sojourn link at the top of the page for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:2024 Allegheny River of the Year Event: 3 Rivers Watch (Boating) with Three Rivers Waterkeeper
DESCRIPTION:Join Three Rivers Waterkeeper for an in-person training session while kayaking or on our Waterkeeper boat where we go over what pollution to look for and how to report pollution while you’re out by or on the water! For our training sessions\, all equipment such as kayaks and life jackets will be provided. \n3 Rivers Watch is a network of volunteers who are active river users or river watchers\, from individuals to groups\, who have a vested interest in clean water. The kayak version will last roughly an hour on single kayaks and is good for anyone with a base knowledge of kayaking. If you are passionate about creating drinkable\, fishable\, and swimmable waters\, then you might be a great fit for our 3 Rivers Watch program. \nUpcoming 2024 Sessions:\nSaturday\, May 18th (boating) | 1 – 3:15 PM\, Millvale Riverfront Park\nSaturday\, June 8th (kayaking) | 1 – 3 PM\, Monaca Boat Launch\, Ohio River\, with Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community\nThursday\, July 11th (boating) | 6 – 8:30 PM\, Millvale Riverfront Park\nSaturday\, August 10th (kayaking) | 10 AM – 12 PM\, Elizabeth Boat Ramp\, Monongahela River\nSaturday\, September 14th (kayaking) | 10 AM – 12 PM\, Deer Creek Boat Ramp\, Allegheny River

SUMMARY:First Waves Regional Series & Aqua Lab Adventures
DESCRIPTION:First Waves empowers underserved youth with skills and opportunities to improve their lives and create lasting impacts on waterways throughout Pennsylvania. The program achieves these goals through transformative workshops that promote healthy lifestyles\, watershed conservation\, education in the art of filmmaking\, and diversity in outdoor recreation. Students of First Waves learn to recreate safely in local waterways and become active conservationists by planting trees\, removing litter\, and sampling water quality. Furthermore\, an education in filmmaking and digital media provides an outlet for self-expression and empowers youth to inspire positive change within their community. The program culminates in the production of documentary films that showcase the students’ achievements and inspires others to take part in conservation and outdoor recreation. The experiences illustrate how Pennsylvania’s waterways can be a canvas for youth engagement\, education\, and conservation.
