SUMMARY:Hungry for Adventure Sojourn
DESCRIPTION:The Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) and CHOP Out Hunger are teaming up to host “Hungry for Adventure\,” a two-day river trip from Laceyville to Tunkhannock for youth in our four-county region who are enrolled in CHOP programs. This two-day river journey will be held on Aug. 8 and 9\, 2025. Students selected through an essay contest we are hosting will meet at Endless Mountain Outfitters in Sugar Run (Bradford County) on the morning of the event and be shuttled to Laceyville\, where they will begin their paddle to Riverside Park in Tunkhannock.\nStudents will stay overnight at Camp Lackawanna in Tunkhannock\, chaperoned by our staff and team of river guides\, many of which also serve as teachers. “Hungry for Adventure” will not only educate students about kayaking and paddling safety\, but we’ll also be incorporating guest speakers who will teach them about environmental stewardship and the history and ecology of the Susquehanna River. Due to a limited number of boat rentals and shuttle capacity through EMHR’s pair of water trail managers at Endless Mountain Outfitters (EMO) and Susquehanna Kayak and Canoe Rentals (SKCR)\, we are only capable of taking up to 70 students on these youth river trips.

SUMMARY:Licensing Water Well Drillers for Enhanced Safe Drinking Water and Strengthened Public Safety
DESCRIPTION:Water wells are the primary source of drinking water for millions of Pennsylvanians. Yet\, the Commonwealth is one of only two states to not enforce industry standards for well siting and construction  and only one of three states that does not have statewide industry licensing requirements. The proper siting and construction of private wells is critical for safeguarding water quality and protecting public health. \nProfessional licensing for private water well drillers would strengthen accountability within the industry; ensure industry construction and siting standards are upheld; and establish much-needed consumer protections. \nREGISTER to Join POWR for a Conversation Cafe at 12 noon on May 7 as we host PA DCNR’s Director of Policy\, Nicole Faraguna\, to learn more about this important initiative to improve consumer protections and industry accountability while protecting public health and safety.
