SUMMARY:2021 Delaware River Sojourn: "FOCUS ON FISH"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition for the Sojourn\, a guided paddling and camping trip on the Delaware River\, full of fun and adventure\, offering a great time for all participants where wonderful memories are made! The purpose of the Sojourn is to heighten awareness of and appreciation for the Delaware River and its watershed\, which flows for 330 miles through New York\, New Jersey\, Pennsylvania\, and Delaware. \nThe Sojourn combines canoeing/kayaking\, camping\, educational programs\, historical interpretation\, and more. It is for novice to experienced paddlers of all ages; participants can sign up for the whole event or for the section(s) or day(s) of their choice. The Sojourn is fully insured and sanctioned by the American Canoe Association. Each day we are accompanied by our safety team\, made up of members of the National Canoe Safety Patrol. \nSojourners are like an extended family\, and many participants join in the fun year after year\, whether it’s for a day or two\, or the whole event. It is a great way to get outdoors\, meet new people or reconnect with old friends\, and enjoy nature – a perfect “staycation” where you feel you are away but still close to home. DESCRIPTION:The Endless Mountains Heritage Region has partnered with our local outfitters to host a series of Heritage Benefit Paddles throughout Bradford\, Wyoming and Lackawanna counties. Each daylong paddle will incorporate guest speaker presentations about local river history\, watershed conservation efforts and outdoor recreation opportunities from organizations like the Countryside Conservancy\, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority\, and museums from across the region. Every benefit paddles will end with a barbecue dinner and a tasting with a local brewery\, winery or cidery. The first Summer Heritage Paddle will take place July 10 and benefit the Wyoming County Historical Society. The second Summer Heritage Paddle will occur July 31 and benefit the Shickshinny Historical Society. The Fall Heritage Paddle will be held on Oct. 2 with proceeds being donated to the French Azilum Historic Site. These events are $60 for those who bring their own canoe or kayak and $100 for those who need to rent a watercraft. DESCRIPTION:The Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) will be hosting a Family Fun Sojourn on Saturday and Sunday\, June 5 and 6\, 2021. Participants will paddle 20 miles over the two-day period from Wysox Township to Endless Mountain Outfitters in Sugar Run. Highlights of the weekend expedition will be environmental talks from the PA Fish & Boat Commission and our river guides\, a history presentation from the French Azilum Historic Site where paddlers will camp on Saturday evening\, as well as evening music from The Sorters\, a bonfire and a family film on the big screen\, provided by the Keystone Theatre. All meals on the trip are included\, but feel free to bring personal snacks! This is a great opportunity to get out on the river with your children and learn about paddling safety\, environmental stewardship\, local history and simply have fun! Event proceeds will benefit the Keystone Theatre. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed\, which includes masks where necessary and social distancing. Transportation to the launch site will be provided. Prices to register vary based on whether you will be renting a canoe/kayak or bringing your own watercraft. DESCRIPTION:Join the Middle Spring Watershed Association for this 2.5-day canoe/kayak weekend with a total length of 21.7 miles beginning with a flatwater sunset paddle Friday evening on the reservoir above Carlisle Dam. Enjoy the scenery and evening while learning a bit about water use and celebrating local stream history. Saturday (subject to water levels) will be a day paddle in seldom-paddled Franklin County parts of the stream\, where there is usually a fun current and often Bald Eagles\, while learning a bit about the geology of the stream. Feel what the stream was before “civilization”\, even though civilization is never far away. Sunday’s tour starts at a covered bridge\, and passes state game lands and the sites/remains of several historic mills. It also features a lunchtime tour of a riparian buffer. Suitable for beginners\, with no overnights. This sojourn is an opportunity to explore the stream with a group of other paddlers while learning insights about it and its history. Get outdoors\, enjoy some exercise\, have fun and spend a weekend on the Conodoguinet. DESCRIPTION:The 7th Annual Loyalhanna Sojourn is a one-day event to promote and celebrate the Loyalhanna Creek and its surrounding communities in Westmoreland County\, PA. Participants will paddle a nine-mile section of the Loyalhanna beginning at the Cardinal Park launch in Latrobe and continue downstream to the Gray Wing Park launch in New Alexandria.
