SUMMARY:Webinar: PA Fertilizer Law and Homeowner Lawn Care For Healthy Watersheds
DESCRIPTION:Pennsylvania’s Fertilizer Law was updated in July of 2022 in part to help protect local streams and rivers. But many homeowners still don’t know about it and how it applies to them. Join POWR as we host Denise Uzupis\, Natural Resource Program Specialist with the PA Department of Agriculture\, to learn more about the law\, to whom it applies\, and how you can help spread the word about better lawn management for improved water quality! \nAs critical community outreach and education volunteers\, you help people understand how their actions affect water quality. This webinar will provide you with additional knowledge and resources you can use and share with others to ensure we are all doing our part to keep pollution out of local waterways. \nThis webinar is free\, but registration is required in order to receive the Zoom link.

SUMMARY:Lock Through Classes
DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Riverfront and Three Rivers Outdoor Company are teaming up to provide 3 opportunities this season for lock through classes for paddlers in Allegheny County thanks to the 2024 Pennsylvania River Sojourn Mini Grant! This will allow paddlers an opportunity to learn more about navigating longer distances by water through accessing lock-through points with confidence! Locks and dams can be intimidating\, and even experienced paddlers may not feel confident or knowledgeable about how to pass through these barriers. These classes will help to support paddlers in confidently passing through locks and dams through practice and with the support of a group\, in navigating river infrastructure. Our hope is that paddlers will feel more confident in planning or even leading longer sojourns with confidence from taking this class. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about Friends of the Riverfront’s Three Rivers Heritage Trail stewardship clean up opportunities\, launch points\, seasonal free river-based educational programming and paddling opportunities\, and socialize with fellow paddlers. Register at friendsoftheriverfront.org/events (**will be posted closer to the event and will direct to a registration with 3ROC.)

SUMMARY:2024 Allegheny River of the Year Event: 3 Rivers Watch (Boating) with Three Rivers Waterkeeper

The kayak version will last roughly an hour on single kayaks and is good for anyone with a base knowledge of kayaking. If you are passionate about creating drinkable\, fishable\, and swimmable waters\, then you might be a great fit for our 3 Rivers Watch program. \nUpcoming 2024 Sessions:\nSaturday\, May 18th (boating) | 1 – 3:15 PM\, Millvale Riverfront Park\nSaturday\, June 8th (kayaking) | 1 – 3 PM\, Monaca Boat Launch\, Ohio River\, with Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community\nThursday\, July 11th (boating) | 6 – 8:30 PM\, Millvale Riverfront Park\nSaturday\, August 10th (kayaking) | 10 AM – 12 PM\, Elizabeth Boat Ramp\, Monongahela River\nSaturday\, September 14th (kayaking) | 10 AM – 12 PM\, Deer Creek Boat Ramp\, Allegheny River

SUMMARY:Susquehanna Greenway Sojourn Series
DESCRIPTION:Who’s ready for the ultimate sampling of the Susquehanna? The 2024 Susquehanna Sojourn Series has you covered! The managers of the Susquehanna River Water Trail are banding together to provide single day paddles that give you a taste of each unique section: the West Branch\, North Branch\, Middle Section\, and Lower Section. Sign up for one\, several\, or try them all! The Susquehanna Sojourn Series is presented as a celebration of the Susquehanna River Water Trail in honor of its newly released logos and branding. At over 500 miles\, the water trail is managed in sections. The logos were designed to identify these unique sections\, while also recognizing them within the larger system. The water trail managers are excited to implement this new branding onto comprehensive signage across the Susquehanna River\, assisting paddlers with safety and navigation on their adventures.
