Join Independence Conservancy for a “Walk in Penn’s Woods” on Sunday, October 3 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Rocky Bend Nature Preserve, 247 Raccoon Creek Road, Potter Township, Monaca PA 15061. Explore the scenic Raccoon Creek Greenway with its rocky cliffs, wooded hillsides and quiet shorelines.
Highlights include a natural stream bank repair under construction, a grove of giant sassafras trees, and a maturing wetland-meadow teeming with songbirds. Experts will be on hand to answer your questions about wild birds, fish, forestry, nature photography, geology, streams, wetlands, and local history.
The walk is one mile over mowed grass and bare earth with a few short, moderate climbs. A restroom is available. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes or boots. There is no rain date. This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. People-friendly leashed pets are allowed; owners must clean up after their pets.
