The Perki-Bay Expedition is a one-of-a-kind youth paddling experience. After successfully completing a 6-month internship, participants embark on a wilderness-style expedition through the heart of Philadelphia. The Perki-Bay Expedition is a 5-day, 50-mile, self-supported sojourn, where participants paddle loaded canoes from the Perkiomen Creek, down the Schuylkill River and onto the Delaware River – essentially tracing the waters of the Perkiomen to where they meet the sea. Along the way, students note land-use changes and engage with a wide variety of community groups. This trip is a true catalyst and many students walk away feeling empowered to tackle the many environmental challenges that plague our waterways.
