Come help the EMHR and several event partners with a river cleanup in Wyoming County on our 2023 PA River of the Year! As manager of the Upper Susquehanna River North Branch Water Trail, it is imperative that the EMHR promote environmental stewardship and conservation efforts that protect this magnificent and historic natural resource! As part of our long lineup of River of the Year events in 2023, we are hosting several volunteer cleanups along the water trail. The first will be held in Wyoming County in partnership with Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rentals, Keystone College, and Shadowbrook Inn & Resort. Students and employees from each will be volunteering for the day to help us out and we’d love for you to join us, too! We’ll be meeting at the Whites Ferry PA Fish & Boat Commission Launch along Keelersburg Road (coordinates: 41.477567, -75.904971) on Thursday, April 27 at 9 a.m.
Trash bags, gloves and a light lunch will be provided, but feel free to bring your own! Volunteers will have the option to walk along the shoreline collecting litter, bringing their own kayak to help cleanup the island along the way, or renting a kayak for just $20 to support the cause! Volunteers will be shuttled to Riverside Park in Tunkhannock and paddle back down river back to Whites Ferry collecting trash along the way. Those who are combing the shores for trash on foot will be dropped off at designated sections. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the EMHR at (570) 265-1528 or by sending an email to contact@emheritage.org. Those interested in renting a kayak for the cleanup can call Art Coolbaugh at Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rental at (570) 388-6107.
A special thank you to EIO Waste & Recycling Solutions, Inc. of Harvey’s Lake for providing the trash removal service to us!
