Vote for the River of the Year

Each year, the public is invited to vote online for the Pennsylvania River of the Year, choosing from among waterways selected from all those nominated across the state. A selection committee determines the slate of rivers for voting based on the conservation needs and successes, as well as a description of ROY celebration plans, of all the rivers that were nominated. In cooperation with DCNR, selection of public voting choices is overseen by POWR.

“This annual undertaking is much more than a public vote gauging popularity of a Pennsylvania waterway,” says  PA DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. “Regardless of outcome, the competition builds community support around our rivers and streams, putting them in the public limelight. All have truly unique attributes and offer incredible recreational opportunities and significant boosts to local economies.”

Each year, the online public selection process increases in popularity with more votes cast each subsequent year.

Voting is managed through Woobox, an online contest application which restricts voting to one email address.
